Bob Coleman

KATI Announcer served from approximately 1970-1982.  Bob also was the Sports Director and hosted “Free For All” for a time.
Bob Coleman came to KATI in early 1970, hired by Pat Meenan.  Sports was his passion and he quickly became the Sports voice of KATI for the entire time of the 70’s. In the mid 70’s Co-hosted the KATI morning show with Larry Wakefield.  He also hosted “Free for All” when Doc Mueller left to go to KTWO.  He hosted the program until 1981.
Bob Coleman came to KATI in early 1970, hired by Pat Meenan after spending time as a truck driver for Salt Creek Freightways.  When he arrived he had little experience but was one of the fastest learners in broadcasting.  Sports was his passion and he quickly became the Sports voice of KATI.  Play by Play, Sports reporting and on-air work were all part of Bob’s day.  He & Larry Wakefield Co-hosted the KATI Morning Show until Wakefield left KATI in 1978.  Coleman & Company took over KATI Mornings after Larry’s departure.  Coleman left KATI in the early 80’s to work for the United States Postal Service.  Bob passed in 2007.  Obituary is listed below.

Bob was also an avid fan of boxing and he was instrumental in starting a boys boxing club that later turned in the beginnings of the Casper Boy’s (and later Girls) Club.

Robert Rogers “Bob” Coleman

Bob passed away on June 16, 2007. He was born on September 18, 1935, near Ault in Weld County, Colorado. He spent some years in the South and over 30 years in Wyoming. He relocated to the Colorado Springs area in January of 2004. Bob was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and the American Postal Workers Union.

In addition to working in the trucking business and the postal service, he worked as sportscaster and reporter for radio stations in Casper, Wyoming, Glenwood Springs and Durango, Colorado and a brief stint in Denver.

An army veteran, he was formerly a member of both the VFW and the American Legion. At one time, he was a member in good standing in the BPOE, FOE, and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty, whom he married in August, 2001. In addition, he leaves behind five step-daughters, two step-sons, and 19 beautiful and fantastic grand-children and great grand-children. Also survived by a sister, Pat Jungferman, and brother-in-law, Dick, one niece and three nephews…all of Florida. Others include two aunts, many cousins, and a host of friends.

Bob was particularly happy about life following his marriage to his true love and soul-mate, Betty. He often said that knowing her was the luckiest thing that ever happened to him.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Tues. June 26 at the Aspen Mortuary, 6370 Union St. in Arvada, Co. In lieu of cards and flowers, please make a small donation to your local Boy & Girls Club or the charity of your choice. Bob was a great fan of Elvis Presley so play an Elvis song now and then in his memory.
