Phil Kuhn (Phil Rogers)

Announcer 1968 -1971, Chief Engineer
Phil came to KATI following the departure of Steve Broomell (Steve Harris) in 1968.  Phil and Steve had been co-workers at NCAR in Boulder and also HAM radio buddies in Colorado as well in the early 60’s.  When Broomell left KATI for Gates radio in 1968, he recommended Kuhn as his replacement.
Phil Kuhn came to KATI following the departure of Steve Broomell (Steve Harris) in 1968.  Phil and Steve had been co-workers at NCAR in Boulder and also HAM radio buddies in Colorado as well in the early 60’s.  Phil had experience in electronics and engineering but had never been on the air in commercial radio.  He took to it like a duck to water and soon was behind the mic every weekday as Phil Rogers.

Phil’s other responsibilities were engineering, taking care of studios and transmitter facilities.  His main job was keeping both KATI & KAWY-FM on the air. He did a great job and was soon building live on-air studios for KAWY.  He both designed and built the studios by converting old office space into sound studios.

Kuhn was an excellent asset to the stations and was the engineer until 1974.  He left the stations to return to Colorado to design high power amplifiers for HAM radio transmitters and later designed power amps and other electronic circuitry for the early development of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for General Electric.

He is still an active HAM radio operator as he has been since his teenage years in Buffalo, New York.  His call sign is K0AR.  Phil is currently retired and living in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
