KATI Announcer 1964 – 1966

Tek Smith was an announcer on KATI from 1965 to about 1967.  He primarily worked evenings and weekends and did some production.  He left KATI in 1967 and worked at KVOC for a couple of years.  In 1968, Smith did the K-Mart Show for KVOC for a time following the departure of Dave Nutter for KATI.

Tek and one other occupant was killed in a plane crash in the early 80’s. The accident investigation reported that Smith was piloting the small aircraft when in crashed into the side of the Shirley Basin Mine Pit wall.  Alcohol and pilot error was suspected as the cause of the accident. 

Smith was working for one of the Riverton radio stations at the time of his death.
